The PMA Mass of Remembrance is this Saturday, March 13, 11:30 AM at St. Paul the Apostle followed by the PMA Plaque unveiling and reception at W. 61st Street which has been officially named by NYC as Power Memorial Way. The forecast for St. Patrick's Day is sunny with a temperature of 56 degrees or higher. We must advise the NYC St. Patrick's Day Committee regarding the number of PMA Alumni that are marching. Please make sure you have registered with Kevin Bollbach if you are planning on marching. Reminder: Strict dress code - no sneakers, no advertising on your coats, no green hats. If you are attending our Post Parade Party be sure to advise Mike Kelly that you will be attending and how many adult guests you will have. We expect a great turnout with the class of 1960 leading the way.

Just want to say hi. Sadly I lost track of my PMA years until I found this site by accident. I am very fortunate to have attended Power and am highly praised when I tell others that I graduated from there. Unable to walk in this years parade but my heart and soul will be there since I had marched in one a long time ago. Any fellow classmates please email me. Currently live in Suffolk, VA.

Just found the score for the Power Memorial Alma Mater that Jerry Koprivsek arranged in May '61 for the Glee Club, as well as the words to "We Were Here First" and "We've Made It" that Mr. K wrote for our debut at Philharmonic Hall. if anyone wants a copy, drop me a line. The Alma Mater is a scan of the original mimeo sheet.

So far the class of 1960 has 36 marching on St. Patrick's Day and 40 attending the Post Parade Party. They are celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of their graduation. Way to go guys! The classes of '65, '70, 75, '80 ought to try matching those numbers.

St. Patrick's Day Parade & Party If you plan on marching with your fellow alumni please contact KEVIN BOLLBACH in order to register for the parade. E-mail Kevin at kevin_tax@yahoo.com
Advise Kevin if you will need a sash or not. Our supplies are running low - if your sash from previous parades is still in good shape please remember to bring it to the assembly point on March 17th. Mike Kelly will be handling the Post Parade Party. You should register for the party at 845-462-2865 or via e-mail at parades2@verizon.net It is important that we know as soon as possible how many alumni plan to march and how many alumni and adult guests plan to attend the party in order to advise the caterer how much food and liquid refreshments we will need.
Reminders - strict dress code for the parade. No sneakers or clothing with advertisements of any sort. No green hats! Only alumni are permitted to march (no family or friends). No cell phone calls during the parade and no alcoholic beverages prior to or during the march.
We will represent our famous Alma Mater with dignity and honor just like we did while in school.

One of our classmates that we are looking for from the class of 1961 is Anthony J. Caminiti. When Anthony graduated in 1961 he was living on Hobart Avenue in the Bronx. We think Anthony died in 2001 with a last address in the Bronx. We are trying to confirm whether he is living or deceased. If anyone knows a relative of Anthony please e-mail me the information. Fantastic news about "Power Memorial Way". I lived on 60th Street and the corner of Columbus Avenue. This is a true honor not only for the school but for all who were students. I loved the school and cherish the memory, I must say that I will never forgive the Christian Brothers for closing the school, especially that several options were available. Oh well what is done is done. To all congratulations on the street renaming and Happy New Year.

TERRIFIC NEWS!!! Gentlemen, We did it!!! 61st Street has now become "our street." Today, VP Mike Kelly '55 , Bill Hind '55 and I attended the ceremony at City Hall to watch Mayor Bloomberg sign the bill that renames 61st Street "Power Memorial Way." Councilwoman Gale Brewer was there to greet us and introduce us to the Mayor. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Gale and her staff for all of the hard work she has done for us. She is a true "Friend of Power." Many thanks also go out to boardmembers Joe Maffia '77 & Sean Crowley '83 for all of the hard work they put into this endeavor. The Reunion was terrific. A full report is in the PMA Alumni Newsletter. If any of our alumni did not receive the Fall Newsletter via e-mail it is probably because we do not have your current e-mail address. In the newsletter John Torres PMA '70, our recording secretary, gave some good advice concerning the Alumni e-mails:
How To Avoid The PMA Newsletter Being Identified As SPAM
1. Ensure that your Email has not reached its capacity threshold (because many of our Alumni's Mail Boxes are full and if it is then our Email is rejected).
2. Ensure that the Email Address PMAAlumniAssoc@AOL.COM is placed into the Address Book or Contact's Folder.
3. Add PMAAlumniAssoc@AOL.COM into the Friend's List of your SPAM/Mail Filter Application/Program.
4. Please check your SPAM Folder and/or Junk Email Folder to identify PMAAlumniAssoc@AOL.COM as “Not SPAM”. Note: Due to the cost of doing a mailing via the U.S. Post Office we ask that each of our Alumni provide an Email Address to us. We do not foresee doing very many mailings of our quarterly Newsletters. If you do not personally have an Email Address then please ask one of your family members if they would send an Email to PMAAlumniAssoc@AOL.COM and have them identify your name and graduation year as the person to whom they will forward the Newsletter to.
5. If you have not updated your e-mail address send an e-mail to John Torres at PMAAlumniAssoc@aol.com Be sure to give your name, address, phone number (optional), year of graduation, and your e-mail address.
In any event, be sure to check your spam folder daily.

Hi everyone, Last Saturday I attended the Power Memorial Academy Alumni Association Mass Of Remebrance for the first time. I can't even begin to express how impressed I was by the event. I had not been back to the church of St. Paul the Apostle since I graduated from Power and I could not believe how beautiful it was inside. Some of the highlights included: Frank Feeley, PMA '57 of the County Tyrone Pipe Band playing bagpipes; Joseph C. De Fazio, PMA '71, who is in charge of the Mass of Remembrance, singing songs in such a soothing, controlled and beautiful voice that I sat there in awe thinking his voice is a gift from God. The Mass was concelebrated by a number of priests, among which was the principal celibrant, Gerald T. Walsh, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of New York, PMA '59 There was a Eulogy for Brother Anthony E. D'Adamo that was delivered by Brother Harry M. Dunkak, Ph.D, Prof Emeritus of History, Iona College. The Eulogy and A Tribute to Tom Brady, who gave his life on March 15, 1948 trying to help save the lives of his fellow Power students, appear in a handout that was given at the Mass. The handout also lists the names of our fellow Power Alumni, Principals, Faculty Members, Coaches and Staff who are no longer with us. The names were read aloud at the end of the Mass. There was a reception held after the Mass. I could not stay for the reception but I quickly took a walk over to the old Power site to take some pictures that I will share with all of you in the photo gallery. I hope that those of you who have not been able to attend the Mass will be able to do so next year.
Below is a link to information about the building that took Power's place. Our school is mentioned in the link http://www.cityrealty.com/sell/building.cr?bid=3706
