I'm looking for an Ed "Eddie" Walsh for a reunion at a lake we grew up at in NJ, Shady Lake. I'm guessing Ed was Class of '64 as we were about the same age and that's when I graduated from Bergen Catholic HS (Irish Christian Brothers) in Oradell, NJ. Hi everyone, Last Saturday I attended the Power Memorial Academy Alumni Association Mass Of Remebrance for the first time. I can't even begin to express how impressed I was by the event. I had not been back to the church of St. Paul the Apostle since I graduated from Power and I could not believe how beautiful it was inside. Some of the highlights included: Frank Feeley, PMA '57 of the County Tyrone Pipe Band playing bagpipes; Joseph C. De Fazio, PMA '71, who is in charge of the Mass of Remembrance, singing songs in such a soothing, controlled and beautiful voice that I sat there in awe thinking his voice is a gift from God. The Mass was concelebrated by a number of priests, among which was the principal celibrant, Gerald T. Walsh, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of New York, PMA '59 There was a Eulogy for Brother Anthony E. D'Adamo that was delivered by Brother Harry M. Dunkak, Ph.D, Prof Emeritus of History, Iona College. The Eulogy and A Tribute to Tom Brady, who gave his life on March 15, 1948 trying to help save the lives of his fellow Power students, appear in a handout that was given at the Mass. The handout also lists the names of our fellow Power Alumni, Principals, Faculty Members, Coaches and Staff who are no longer with us. The names were read aloud at the end of the Mass. There was a reception held after the Mass. I could not stay for the reception but I quickly took a walk over to the old Power site to take some pictures that I will share with all of you in the photo gallery. I hope that those of you who have not been able to attend the Mass will be able to do so next year.

On March 18, 2003, Chuck Cunningham wrote: It was a pleasure to march up Fifth Avenue with you all yesterday. What an incredible experience it was! The warm, enthusiastic welcomes that embraced us on our way were truly amazing. The waves of cheers and the "Welcome Back" good wishes, helped me to ignore the cries of my feet and legs."Hey, buddy, you're not seventeen anymore!" The great, good cheer among our ranks carried us onward. Even when, upon reaching 86th Street, we kept on going!!! "The end ain’t 86th Street anymore", somebody yelled."We're going to 186th"!!!! I believe we did ourselves proud from all the feedback I've received. And too, there were those looks of complete amazement on the faces of other alumni onlookers as we passed by. Police Officers.clergymen, the lot. That said it all for me! And the party afterwards at The Harp Bar was tremendous fun.several much deserved, cold brews, heapings of good food, good company and great camaraderie. The only sad note is that it can never be the same again. We were the FIRST to make this incredible comeback! Treasure that, gentlemen.for we DID IT and we did it proudly. It is an honor to be a POWERMAN and it was an honor to have walked so tall with you all. Chuck Cunningham '57 __________________ Chuck Cunningham

This is an excerpt from a Discussion Forum entry by Ray Searles as we were returning to the St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2003 "All kidding aside boys, it's been a long time hearing from me, lets see, 6/28/02 WOW. Have I been sick that long? And it takes a St Patrick's Day Parade to get me up. I feel like the old man in the "Quiet Man" when he is on his death bed, and he hears the fight coming down his street, "Up with ya now ladies, I'll not be laying down while my boys is out there". And there it is lads. Power Memorial Academy, and its hold on us all. Different years we may be; different nationalities; and races; but all bleed Purple and Gold Forever.
So march you boys of Ireland, you boys of Power, March. March for yourselves. March for your children. March for those who can't and want to. March for ALL who marched before you. But most of all march with pride, for you're the men of POWER MEMORIAL. Peace my Brothers __________________ Ray S "70" "The Wild Colonial Boy" PURPLE AND GOLD FOREVER" We made history that St. Patrick's Day in 2003 and the pride and tradition of Power Memorial Academy is still strong in our hearts. I am a better person for having known Br. D even though he busted my chops when I turned 50 ten years ago. I was waiting for the 60 year abuse but it never came. Now I know why. But he was an example of a true Christian & we all know that he is with the Almighty now. I just hope HE did his homework or He might get that smile which usually was always a sign of happiness but could mean Oh-Oh. God Bless you Br. D, I can and never will forget you. Hopefully there will come a day when the entire Power family will be in formation with the Marching Band (under Mr. Morra) as we march proudly together up the equivalent of 5th Ave. in Heaven past the Lord and not only HE will smile but you will smile as you tell us "stay in line gentlemen - face straight ahead". March on because that's the one & only way, THE POWER WAY !!!

I can't believe Br. D Has left us. We corresponded frequently & I will miss him greatly. He was my homeroom teacher '63-64 Room 505 "good guys". I'm really broken up about him, he was truly dedicated to all he did for us & I'm too broken up to write any more right now but all I have is good memories of him including "our song" and the strap that went with it. Those of you in 505 know what I'm talking about. May he rest in the boosom of the Lord for all Eternity. Addio Frattello, gli benedetti di Dio descendera nella sua testa per sempre. Pace amico mio. I am truly distressed at the passing of Bro. D'Adamo! He changed my life for the better by helping a misguided kid from Jersey attend Power. A small scholarship, a firm handshake and warm well wishes allowed me to attend Power as a transferring sophomore (I was sure glad to get away from the Sisters of Christian Charity!) What is most significant is his continued kindness and guidance until he passed me onto St. Peter's Jesuit College. I am very sure that I would not have enjoyed the road to success in my life if it were not for this truly gracious, caring individual. Our world is just not as bright without his warm smile! Rest in Peace Bro D.!

The following email was sent to Art Kenny concerning Father Jacobs who was our Chaplain at Power.
Dear Arthur, On the website you sent me there was an entry from John Corso forwarded by Chick Pisani concerning Father Peter Jacobs. John might be interested in seeing the attached if you have a way of reaching him. Perhaps there are others from that era who knew Fr. Jacobs and would be interested in attending the U.S. memorial for him later this spring. There will be a Mass in the Brothers chapel at 10AM followed by coffee and story telling in the Rice cafeteria. All are welcome. All at Rice High School 74 West 124th Street NYC on Saturday June 20, 2009. Serving as Chaplin to Power and Rice were among Fr. Jacobs’ most treasured memories. Any help in getting out the word will be greatly appreciated. Prayer of the Faithful: Mass of the Resurrection, Brother Anthony Edmund D'Adamo, CFC January 31, 2009 Holy Family Church, New Rochelle, New York Let us stand with Brother D' as he hears the Lord's final report. Let us ask a share of the graces that marked his mission. Attend to the format of the six petitions. When we come to the 7th there will be a quiz. You will need to add your own. The response will be Lord, hear our Prayer. Says the Lord: I was hungry and you gave me to eat. I was thirsty and you shared your classic coke. I was a student at St. Cecilia's, Power Memorial, Monsignor Farrell, Iona Prep and Rice -- the quality of your unconditional love flourished in every venue. For a share of Br. D's grace of blooming wherever he was planted, let us pray to the Lord. I was a city kid facing a boring summer. You commandeered busses and ferries to bring hundreds of us each day to our very own Island. For a share of Br. D's largess, let us pray to the Lord. I was in the midst of students on Walsh Hill. They were breaking all the rules. While others considered calling the police, you joined the group, told a few jokes, let us pet your monkey and then sent us off to our classes.
For a share of Br. D's grace for peacemaking, let us pray to the Lord. When my friends borrowed sheep from the College Nativity Display not all saw it as a harmless joke. You cleared the way for its return - no questions asked. For the grace to promote reconciliation in our hearts, our families, our country, our church and our world, let us pray to the Lord. I was a new ragazzo at Boys’ Town, feeling very much alone. You welcomed me into your office, cut my hair and took my picture again and again until I laughed. You caught my smile and said, “That one is for your grandmother.”
For the families of all those Br. D served, let us pray to the Lord.
I was imprisoned in an easy chair, mindlessly watching TV. You told me I was needed as a 4th for bridge.
For a share of Ed’s grace for animating community, let us pray to the Lord.
You get the pattern. There is no impression without expression. Now please share a similar prayer with the person next to you.
Well done good and faithful servant. When tensions rose you told a joke. When they did not know what they were doing, when all else seemed to fail, you persisted with prayer and humor. Enter now into the home I have prepared for you and your friends for all eternity.
For a double share of Br. D’s constancy and joy, let us pray to the Lord.
Ogni lacrimache si asciuga degli occhi di un bambino E una stella che si acende nel cielo.
Every tear that is wiped from the eyes of a child is a star that is lit in the heavens.
May Br. Anthony Edmond D’Adamo continue to shine for all eternity!

Brother D'Adamo was our teacher at Bishop Gibbons H.S. in Schenectady NY in 1961-62. He was a tremendous influence and a great person. Our class of '62 still talks of him and we have maintained contact in recent years. He will be missed. Our prayers are with his family.

Re: Bro. D'Adamo I spoke with Bro D's nephew, Gary D'Adamo, today and he informed me that Bro. D+ is now in stable condition and his recovery is heading in the right direction, however, Bro Driscoll is in very serious condition. Gary will keep me informed of Bro D's & Bro Driscoll's conditions and I will relay it to all of you.
I will reiterate Bro. McCarthy's request to keep both of them in your prayers.
God Bless Bro. D, Bro Driscoll and all of you.
